Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Passes

Arcachon

Period
Built in 1863

A little chapel nestling opposite the channels of the bay, a refuge of prayer for seafaring families.

Nestling in the seaside district of Le Moulleau, on the southern shore of the Bassin d'Arcachon, the chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Passes was built in 1863 on the initiative of the parish to answer the devotion of the sailors' and fishermen's families of the bay. Its name refers to the "passes", the shifting and dreaded channels that link the Bassin d'Arcachon to the Atlantic Ocean and whose crossing has cost the lives of many sailors over the centuries.

Getting there : Located in the Moulleau district of Arcachon, open for worship and to visitors.
