Chapelle des Trois Fontaines
Ychoux
Three springs swirling beneath the foliage, keeping a scent of watery mystery dear to the pilgrims of old.
Completed in 1898 at the instigation of Abbé Lage, the chapel of the Trois Fontaines at Ychoux was built beside three springs reputed to be "miraculous", which the local Gascon calls "eschourdes", literally eddies where the water turns upon itself. The site belongs to the great tradition of the healing springs of the Landes forest, a web of several hundred venerated water sources that blends a pre-Christian cult of springs with Catholic processional devotion. The chapel remains today one of the main elements of Ychoux's minor heritage.
Getting there : Forest pilgrimage chapel, visible on the outskirts of the village of Ychoux, near the church of Notre-Dame and the railway station; coordinates correspond to the village centre, the chapel lying on the edge of the village.
