Église Saint-Martin de Moustey

Moustey

Dimensions
Modest-sized Romanesque building, bell-gable, dimensions not published
Period
Romanesque, probably 11th–12th century
What stands there
1 church (parish church, in use)

A Romanesque church built of garluche, the local ferruginous sandstone, with a bell-gable and a cross-shaped plan, it is the parish church of Moustey, still in use, distinct from the neighbouring church of Notre-Dame that has become a museum. The two buildings, a few metres apart, once shared the same churchyard, a peculiarity that has struck travellers for centuries. Moustey is a stage on the Tours route (Via Turonensis) leading to Santiago de Compostela. The church has been registered as a monument historique since 1973 (order of 18 June 1973, Mérimée record PA00083988).
