What stands there
1 tree

This pedunculate oak with a hollow trunk and a characteristic Y-shaped silhouette stands at the place called Cantaure in the commune of Lüe, in the forest of the Pays de Born. Local tradition tells of Pope Leo IX passing nearby, and of a halt by Pope Clement V around 1310, though neither account can be historically verified. The Landes ethnographer Félix Arnaudin, who photographed the tree on 13 July 1899 and mentioned it in his book "Au temps des échasses" (In the Days of Stilts), intervened in 1870 to prevent its felling when it was in danger of ending up as firewood. The tree was awarded the label "Arbre remarquable de France" (Remarkable Tree of France) on 3 May 2011 and was given to the commune by its owner, Michel Harribey. It served as a film set in June 2019.
