Founded in 1221 in the presence of King Ferdinand III, this Gothic cathedral was consecrated as early as 1260 and then enriched with Flamboyant decoration up to the 16th century. The only Spanish cathedral inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site independently of its historic centre (1984), it houses the tomb of El Cid Campeador and his wife Doña Jimena.
