What stands there
still inhabited by the Rohan family

One of the most beautiful chateaux in Brittany, its stark defensive facade on the town side contrasting with its richly sculpted Renaissance facade in granite lace on the moat side. Founded in the 11th century, it was retaken in 1370 by the constable Olivier de Clisson, companion-in-arms of Bertrand du Guesclin, who thoroughly remodelled it. Passed by marriage to the Rohan family at the beginning of the 15th century, it remains their property to this day — more than six centuries of continuous occupation by the same family line.
