The abbey of Flaran, at Valence-sur-Baïse, is a Cistercian abbey founded in 1151 in the filiation of the abbey of l'Escaladieu (Hautes-Pyrénées). The abbey church, built in the 12th and 13th centuries, displays the sober architecture typical of the Cistercian order, with a nave under a pointed barrel vault. The cloister and conventual buildings were remodelled up to the 18th century. The ensemble, now the property of the Conseil départemental du Gers, is regarded as one of the best-preserved Cistercian sites in the South-West.
