1 collegiate church

The collegiate church of Saint-Pierre at La Romieu was founded in 1312 on the initiative of Cardinal Arnaud d'Aux, a native of the village and close to Pope Clement V, on the foundations of an earlier priory. The building combines a four-bay Gothic nave flanked by two towers, a square tower serving as bell tower and an octagonal tower housing the sacristy, the chapter house and a belvedere. The painted vaults and medallions depicting apostles, saints and musician angels count among the best-preserved painted decorations in the Gers. Listed as a historic monument since 1901, the collegiate church has been inscribed since 1998 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. The village is also known for the legend of Angéline and the cats, presented separately.
