Château de Terraube
Terraube
The château of Terraube was built around 1272 for the de Galard family, which has remained its owner for most of its history, apart from the revolutionary period: sold as national property in 1790, it was bought back by the Vicomte de Galard-Terraube in 1816. The building was altered and enlarged between the 16th and 18th centuries. The facade is adorned with carvings depicting animals, figures, gargoyles and coats of arms, including those of the Galards, visible on a chimneypiece. The château was listed and registered as a historic monument by order of 26 February 1988. It overlooks the hilltop village of Terraube, built in a star pattern around the fortress.
