Château et village fortifié de Larressingle
Larressingle
Larressingle is a fortified village in the Gers, considered one of the smallest fortified towns in France, entirely enclosed by a polygonal rampart 270 metres long built in the 13th century by the abbots and then the bishops of Condom, lords of the place. The château, a trapezoidal mass on four levels flanked by a hexagonal turret, was listed as a historic monument in 1922, while the walls were registered in 1947 and then listed in 1950. The village lies on the Via Podiensis, one of the historic routes to Santiago de Compostela, immediately next to the Pont d'Artigues, which crosses the Osse. It is one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" and attracts around 133,000 visitors a year.
