What stands there
Pórtico do Paraíso, polychrome portal of the 13th century

A transitional Romanesque cathedral consecrated at the end of the 12th century, it is famous for its Pórtico do Paraíso, a polychrome 13th-century portal explicitly inspired by the Pórtico de la Gloria at Compostela, which it interprets without copying. It houses the Santo Cristo, a crucifix documented since the 14th century and the object of great veneration in Galicia; the tradition that it was carved by Nicodemus and arrived by sea is clearly a matter of legend. Its portal served as the entrance for pilgrims following the Vía de la Plata and the Camino Sanabrés towards Compostela.
