The Gothic cathedral was built from the late 13th century on the site of the great mosque of Huesca, handed over to the bishopric after the Christian conquest of 1096 and then used as a church for nearly two centuries before its Gothic rebuilding. Its high altarpiece in alabaster, a masterpiece by Damián Forment completed in the early 16th century, is one of its highlights. A stage on the Camino Catalán linking Lleida to Jaca and the Somport pass, it still preserves near the cloister remains of the horseshoe arch of the original mosque.
