The second major stage on the Camino Francés after the crossing of the Pyrenees, the present cathedral of Pamplona was built between 1394 and 1501 to replace a 12th-century Romanesque building. It served as the place of coronation and burial of the kings of Navarre, and its Gothic cloister ranks among the most admired in Europe.
