A hermitage built in 1613-1614 by a confraternity, with hermits until 1791

Above Cucuron, in the Luberon, the chapelle de l'Ermitage overlooks the Aigues valley at more than 480 metres. It was first a pilgrimage sanctuary attached to the parish, which wills mention as early as 1292. In the early 17th century, a confraternity maintained and transformed it. It added a bell tower in 1602, a hermitage in 1613 or 1614, then a new nave from 1614 to 1620. Hermits lived there regularly until 1791. After the Revolution, the place became the property of the commune. It was restored in 1957. A pilgrimage path links Cucuron to Vaugines. Today the chapel is used for religious ceremonies and concerts.
