Chapelle Notre-Dame de Kerdévot

Ergué-Gabéric

Dimensions
Flamboyant Gothic, choir completed around 1489
Period
Late 15th century, consecrated in 1556
What stands there
Flemish altarpiece, healing fountain 300 m away

According to legend, the villagers built this chapel to thank the Virgin for having spared them an outbreak of plague in 1439. It houses a rare 15th-century Flemish altarpiece in painted and gilded wood, blending Flemish and Breton styles — on the Nativity panel, one notices a shepherd playing the biniou (Breton bagpipe) among the traditional figures of the scene. 300 m from the close, a Gothic fountain has for generations been reputed to cure fever and catarrh.
