Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Croix
Marciac
In 1653, a woman of Marciac is said to have received two visions of the Virgin, surrounded by light, asking that a chapel be dedicated to her on this spot. A building was raised shortly afterwards, destroyed at the Revolution and rebuilt in 1880 in neo-Romanesque style by the architect Hippolyte Durand. The pilgrimage, held every Whit Monday, continues today on a modest scale. The precise circumstances of the apparition, known mainly through local oral tradition, are not corroborated by independent written sources of the period.
