Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Verdale
Latouille-Lentillac
Tradition relates that in 1349, at the height of the plague, the Virgin appeared to a shepherdess named Élisabeth while, not far away, a woodcutter discovered a small wooden statue beside a rock. The villagers who tried to raise a chapel elsewhere saw their work collapse each night, so it is said, until a hammer thrown as an offering fell back at the foot of the rock, marking the intended spot. The legendary dating remains uncertain, but a stone of the doorway carved with the date 1315 and a 14th-century statue bear witness to the sanctuary's genuine antiquity.
