1 founding apparition reported by tradition (636)

According to a medieval tradition, a ship without a crew ran aground in 636 on the shore at Boulogne-sur-Mer, carrying a statue of the Virgin, while the faithful claimed she had appeared to them to announce the event. The Boulogne pilgrimage, visited by Philip the Fair in 1308, inspired his son Philip V to found, in the 14th century near Paris, the village of "Boulogne-la-Petite" around a church dedicated to Notre-Dame de Boulogne — the origin of the name of present-day Boulogne-Billancourt.
