Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Médaille Miraculeuse (Rue du Bac)

Paris (7e arrondissement)

Dimensions
around 35 m above sea level (urban site, chapel without a monumental bell tower on the street)
Period
19th century (chapel built in 1815, altered after 1830, decoration continued until around 1930)
What stands there
2 principal attested apparitions (18 July and 27 November 1830)

On 18 July 1830, the novice Catherine Labouré, aged 24, claimed to have seen the Virgin in the chapel of the Daughters of Charity. A second apparition, in November, is said to have inspired the design of the "Miraculous Medal", since distributed in millions of copies. The Catholic Church has recognised these apparitions; Catherine Labouré, canonised in 1947, rests in the chapel, which has become one of the most visited sanctuaries in Paris.
