What stands there
a place forever linked to the Cathars
A Pyrenean fortress, the last Cathar stronghold before the mass burning of March 1244. A site charged with intense historical and memorial weight, which became in the 20th century a major touchstone of French esoteric literature. As early as 1906, the theorist Joséphin Péladan proposed that Montségur was the 'Munsalväsche,' the Grail castle of Wolfram von Eschenbach — a theory that has fed numerous esoteric currents linking the Cathars to the Holy Grail.
