The Aube rises on the Langres plateau, in Haute-Marne, near Praslay. The Parc national de forêts places it at the mont Armet, in the forest of Auberive, between Praslay and Aujeurres, at an altitude of 375 metres (Wikipedia: 380 m). Wikipedia specifies that there are in fact two springs, 800 metres apart: the choice of ‘the’ spring is therefore a convention. According to the Parc national, the river's name comes from the Latin alba, ‘white’, which makes it a reference to purity. The river is 248.9 kilometres long. It runs north for some twenty kilometres as far as Dancevoir, enters the Côte-d'Or, then joins the Seine. A discovery trail of about 4.5 kilometres and a route on an app, devoted to the forges and the black stork, accompany the visit. No legend or ancient cult linked to these springs was found in the pages consulted. The entry therefore remains mainly descriptive.

Getting there: At the mont Armet, in the forest of Auberive, between Praslay and Aujeurres; car park and trail. Coordinates: position of the spring given by Wikidata, approximate; the exact location of the two springs was not verified on the ground.
