St Michael's Mount
Marazion
A pyramidal granite island rising 60 m in Mount's Bay, reachable on foot via a causeway submerged at high tide. A Benedictine priory was established there in 1135 by monks from the Norman Mont-Saint-Michel, of which it remains the most direct English twin — same dedication, same island silhouette, same legend of the archangel appearing to fishermen to save them from the rocks. The castle that crowns it today, still inhabited by the St Aubyn family, served as a strategic stronghold during several European wars. The first English link in the two St Michael-line traditions presented in this app: John Michell's line running east across England, and the 'sacred line' toward Ireland and the Mediterranean.
