Fontaine Sainte-Madeleine de Clédat
Grandsaigne
In the heart of the state forest of Larfeuil, on the Millevaches plateau, this so-called "miraculous" fountain and its neighbouring chapel made Clédat a place of welcome for pilgrims and passing travellers until the middle of the 20th century. Every year, the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene drew crowds who came to benefit from the good waters of the spring. Isolated, without running water or electricity, the village was finally deserted by its last inhabitants in 1963 — but the chapel and the fountain, rescued by an association of volunteers since 2001, continue to draw walkers and the curious to this setting of granite boulders rising out of the forest.
