Bastide de Palaminy
Palaminy
Palaminy, on the left bank of the Garonne opposite Cazères, is a small bastide of the Volvestre whose origins are disputed. Wikipedia attributes the fortified new town to Raymond VII around 1260, a date incompatible with the count's death in 1249; the association Patrimoine Volvestre points out that the name of the village appears only in 1245, when Roger d'Aspet, lord of the place, did homage to Raymond VII, homage renewed to Alphonse de Poitiers, who in 1257 authorised the same Roger d'Aspet to grant a charter to the inhabitants. In 1271 the consuls swore their oath to the seneschal of the king of France. The village then drew together within a small quadrangular enclosure flanked by a castle, whose position suggests a creation by Gaston Fébus. The church of Saint-Pierre, the castle and two old houses are protected today.
Getting there : Free access to the village; the castle is a private building.
