What stands there
Listed as a monument historique (inscribed) on 27 September 1948 (record PA00082563). Property of the family of La Verrie de Vivans for more than six generations.

The château de Gageac stands west of Bergerac, in the vineyards of the Bergeracois. Its square keep goes back to the 11th-12th centuries and contains two rooms that local tradition calls the guard room and the oubliettes; the oblong main range, flanked by square towers with machicolations and pierced with mullioned windows, dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. The stronghold was taken in 1370 during the siege of Duras, then granted to Archambaud V, count of Périgord; Du Guesclin presented himself there in 1360 and obtained it without a fight. Enlarged in 1650 and then in the 19th century, planted with mulberry trees around 1873 for the raising of silkworms, it has been listed as a monument historique (inscribed) since 27 September 1948 and has belonged to the La Verrie de Vivans family for more than six generations.
