Château de Tiregand

Creysse

Dimensions
Two ranges set side by side along their length: the older, of the 18th century, to the west; the more extensive, of the 19th, to the east, framed by two imposing pavilions. Stables and outbuildings adjoining to the north and north-east, dry moats partly preserved, a rotunda and terraces. The estate covers 406 hectares and overlooks the valley of the Dordogne some forty metres below, with 43 hectares of vines in pécharmant.
Period
Original château of the 13th century, whose remains have been converted into a wine store; west range of the 18th century, east range of the 19th century.
What stands there
The château, the outbuildings, the park, the terraces, the moats and the rotunda were listed as monuments historiques (inscribed) on 20 December 2002 (record PA24000040). The record stresses an estate that has kept all its constituent parts, undismembered, since the 17th and 18th centuries. The château and the outbuildings have belonged to the Guyot family since 2022; the Saint-Exupéry family retains 42 hectares of vineyard.

The château de Tiregand overlooks the right bank of the Dordogne at Creysse, downstream from Bergerac, at the heart of the pécharmant appellation. The original establishment, of the 13th century, is attributed by tradition to Edward Tyrgan, natural son of Henry III of England; its remains serve today as a wine store. The château now visible was rebuilt in the 18th century by Jean-Charles d'Augeard, then considerably enlarged in the 19th after the purchase of the estate in 1826 by Count Alexandre-César de La Panouse. In the 20th century it passed to the Saint-Exupéry family. The estate, of 406 hectares of which 43 are vines, was listed as a monument historique (inscribed) on 20 December 2002 for having kept all its component parts intact.

Getting there : The terrace and the gardens are open to the public from April to October; the opening of the château itself was announced from July 2022.
