Middle Ages — destroyed at the end of the 16th century
What stands there
A moat system still visible, mirrored by a second fortification opposite

In the commune of Pierric, beside the old Roman road from Blain to Fougeray, survive the moats of a castle now vanished, known locally as Rennefort. The ditch, still traceable over a perimeter of about 250 metres with a flat bottom 4 metres wide, surrounded a dwelling of which nothing remains: tradition holds that it was destroyed by the troops of the Catholic League, in the time of the Duke of Mercœur, at the end of the 16th century. Opposite, separated by the river Chèze, a second moated fortification forms a counterpart to the site. Local legend has it that an underground passage linked Rennefort, the neighbouring chapel and the manor of La Porte, with a treasure hidden somewhere along the way.
