It was here, in 1225–1226, that the Cathar bishop of Toulouse, Guilhabert de Castres, gathered around a hundred Perfects for a founding council: the creation of a fifth, independent Cathar bishopric, that of the Razès. A major organisational event for the Cathar Church, then in full expansion despite the crusade under way.
