Le Faouët
Dimensions
16th-century polychrome rood screen — approximate position
Period
15th–16th century
What stands there
1 chapel, listed carved rood screen
A neighbour of the chapel of Sainte-Barbe in the same commune, it is renowned for its exceptional rood screen of polychrome wood, completed in 1480 by the sculptor Olivier Le Loergan. Among its scenes of the deadly sins, that of drunkenness shows a man vomiting a two-tailed fox — an image drawn from a popular expression of the time, "écorcher le renard" ("to skin the fox"), which meant precisely to vomit after drinking too much.
