图尔（Tours）并非偶然把自己的名字给了图尔之路（via Turonensis），这是通往孔波斯特拉的四条历史大道之一：圣马丁（Martin）就安葬在这里，他曾是罗马士兵，后成为主教，相传4世纪时在亚眠（Amiens）把自己的斗篷分给一个穷人，这件事是一种崇拜的奠基事件，使他的陵墓从中世纪早期起就成为西方最大的朝圣地之一。庞大的中世纪大殿在大革命之后几乎全部被毁；如今仅存查理曼塔（tour Charlemagne）和钟楼（tour de l'Horloge），那是罗曼式建筑的遗迹。现存圣所为新拜占庭风格，建于1886–1902年。
