它坐落在阿杜山（Mont Ardu）上，从未遭强攻，曾是卡特里派的避难所，后来在路易九世治下成为整条王家边防线上规模最大的驻军要塞。当地传说——在当地口头传统中有充分的佐证——把西塔楼（城堡中最高的一座，称“白衣夫人塔”）与波旁的布朗什（Blanche de Bourbon）的幽灵联系在一起：她是美男子腓力的侄孙女，1353年为逃离丈夫、卡斯蒂利亚国王“残酷者”佩德罗，据说曾在此停留。
