Local tradition, gathered by a historian of the Hauteville plateau, tells that woodcutters saw near a stream a woman carrying a child, surrounded by light; on drawing near, they found only a statue of the Virgin, which they believed they had seen alive. Carried in procession to the village church, it is said to have risen into the air and come back down to its original spot, prompting the building of a shrine. Comparable tales exist elsewhere in the Ain; a single source to date.
