Period
c. 29,000 to 19,000 years ago (Gravettian to Magdalenian)

paintings, engravings, hand stencils

Famous for its 'Panel of the Dappled Horses,' two facing horses covered in black dots and surrounded by negative handprints. Unlike Lascaux, the original cave remains open to a limited number of visitors each day. The floor itself preserves a moving trace of human passage: twelve footprints left by a teenager, fossilised by calcification at the bottom of a now-dry gour pool, more than 12,000 years old.

Getting there : Paid entry, one of the few decorated caves still open to the public
