What stands there
1 Romanesque chapel, occupied by the Franciscans ("Cordeliers") from the 13th century, listed as a monument historique in 1953

Built on the north flank of the hill of Vézelay following the preaching of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in 1146 in support of the Second Crusade — a well-documented historical event — this Romanesque chapel was occupied from the 13th century by the Franciscans, known as "Cordeliers", who gave it its name. A notable capital depicts an owl blinded by the light of Christ and pecked at by eagles, the symbol of Saint John. Listed as a monument historique in 1953.
