up to 60 nuns of high rank lived here in the Middle Ages

A former Cluniac priory housing a Black Madonna, a Virgin and Child in Majesty that local tradition — to be treated with caution, since no medieval source supports it — traces back to the time of Gregory of Tours, in the 6th century. The priory also kept two prestigious relics, a girdle attributed to the Virgin and a thorn from Christ's crown, and housed up to sixty nuns of high social rank before the Revolution.
