What stands there
keystone of the religious heritage of the Orne

An emblematic building of Norman Gothic, raised mainly in the 13th and 14th centuries on the ruins of an earlier Romanesque cathedral — an architectural transition that can still be read in some of the lower parts of the building. Its unstable foundations, laid on shifting clay soil, required almost continuous consolidation work from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, when the architect Viollet-le-Duc had to intervene to prevent the spires from collapsing. Its west front, framed by two slender towers adorned with statues restored in the 19th century, remains the keystone of all the religious heritage of the Orne department.
