At Boisseuilh, a small village in the north-east of the Dordogne, a fountain dedicated to Saint Valéry lies about fifty metres from the church, route de Saint-Trie. Valéry is the patron saint of the commune; the 14th-century church keeps a wooden statue of the saint, of the 15th century, presented as a Limousin hermit. According to Bernadette Darchen, doctor of natural sciences and author of Les Fontaines sacrées du Périgord, cited by the website Fontaines de France, people suffering from infirmities of the bones and rheumatism generally turned to Saint Eutropius. At Boisseuilh they prayed to Saint Valéry. Inhabitants also told visitors that the water cured eye diseases. This last piece of information is an oral testimony collected on the spot, with no date or written source. No source read gives the date of the cult, or of a pilgrimage. An important point for the visitor: the fountain can be seen from the road, but the land is private. The municipal council asked that it be specified that it is not accessible to the public. Let us respect that.

Getting there: Fountain about 50 m from the church, opposite a private field. At the request of the municipal council, a survey website specifies that it is NOT accessible to the public: do not enter the property. Coordinates: centre of the commune (OpenStreetMap, Nominatim), approximate.

Opening times and access details are given as a guide only: check before you set out.
