Ermitage Saint-Quinis

Camps-la-Source

Dimensions
635 m above sea level
Period
Chapel of unknown date; restored in the 17th century; religious on the spot from 1646 to 1778
What stands there
A hermitage chapel on a promontory, where Saint Quinis is said to have stayed.

A promontory of 635 metres overlooks the village of Camps-la-Source. It has been occupied since prehistory. Tradition holds that Saint Quinis, bishop of Vaison, stayed there in the 6th century: the text of the Pays d'art et d'histoire says that he ‘is said to have stayed’ here. The date of construction of the chapel is uncertain. In the 17th century it was in ruins. It was then restored and embellished to receive a relic of the saint, his lower jaw. This relic is now kept in the parish church. From 1646 to 1778, the site was entrusted to religious, Trinitarians according to a regional tourist site, of whom ruins remain. The chapel keeps ex-votos left by pilgrims. The feast of Sainte-Quinis, in early June, still gathers processions.
