What stands there
associated with the Arthurian legend of Avalon

A conical hill standing alone in the Somerset lowlands, often identified with the legendary Isle of Avalon of the Arthurian cycles. A chapel dedicated to Saint Michael there was destroyed by an earthquake in 1275; the tower that crowns the summit today, the sole remnant of a rebuilt church, dates from the 14th century. It was by observing the alignment between Glastonbury Tor and another nearby hill, Burrow Mump — both crowned with a St Michael's tower — that John Michell first put forward his "St Michael Line" hypothesis in The View Over Atlantis.
