What stands there
oldest collegiate church in the diocese of Nantes

According to the cartulary of Redon, the church of Guérande already housed relics of Saint Aubin in 854. A deed of the 1140s citing several canons makes it the oldest attested collegiate church in the diocese of Nantes. Archaeological excavations have brought to light a Merovingian sarcophagus in the choir, as well as reused pillar bases and capitals suggesting an earlier building as early as the 10th century. In 1342 the town was besieged by the troops of Louis of Spain: five churches in Guérande were burnt, very probably including the collegiate church itself, which would need major repairs financed by letters of indulgence from Pope Gregory XI thirty years later. A restoration programme costing 10 million euros, spread over ten years, began in September 2025.
