Camp de Penchâteau

Le Pouliguen

Dimensions
Protohistoric fortified camp (earthen ramparts and ditches on the Pointe de Penchâteau)
Period
Iron Age (protohistory)
What stands there
Remains of ramparts and traces of bronze metalworking

On the Pointe de Penchâteau, between Le Pouliguen and Batz-sur-Mer, a rocky spur was entrenched as early as the Iron Age with earthen banks and ditches, whose outline can still be traced in the coastal landscape. The site has yielded traces of bronze-working, a sign of early craft activity in addition to its defensive role. Registered as a historic monument and later extended (1979 and 1996), this protohistoric camp can now be explored on foot, along the coastal path that skirts the headland.
