What stands there
The market hall has been inscribed as a monument historique since 2004; the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the church of Saint-Gilles is protected. Rieumes numbered 3,564 inhabitants in 2022.

Rieumes, chief town of the Savès, some forty kilometres south-west of Toulouse, is a bastide with a layered past. The tourist office recalls that the place, whose name is said to evoke a market on the spur, was first a priory of the abbey of Saint-Gilles protected by the count of Toulouse, then a fortified castelnau of the counts of Comminges, and finally a royal bastide; Wikipedia dates the foundation of the bastide to 1317. A place of fairs and markets from time immemorial, the town has kept its merchants' market hall, rebuilt in brick in 1829, and the church of Saint-Gilles raised in 1525 by master masons from Toulouse, where an organ by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll of 1854 sounds. The chapel of Notre-Dame de l'Ormette keeps the memory of a Pietà found at the beginning of the 16th century in an elm.

Getting there : Free access to the town; the market hall hosts the market. The Cœur de Garonne tourist office presents the commune.
