What stands there
A bastide of 1249 in the Ariège Volvestre; the interior of the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Bout-du-Pont inscribed as a monument historique in 1950. The village was served by the Volvestre light railway, from Carbonne to Le Mas-d'Azil, until 1938.

In the Ariège Volvestre, on the borders of the Haute-Garonne, La Bastide-de-Besplas is a former bastide created in 1249, whose very name tells its origin: "Besplas", of uncertain etymology, is generally connected with "belles plaines". The texts name neither the founder nor the terms of the foundation; only the date of 1249 is established, which places the village in the first wave of the bastides of the South-West, a few years before those of the count of Foix at Mazères or at La Bastide-de-Sérou. The village preserves a religious heritage of the early modern period: the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Bout-du-Pont, also called Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, raised in 1663, whose interior and baroque retable are inscribed as monuments historiques, and the church of Saint-André. The château de Baillard completes the group.
