Chapelle de la Vraie-Croix de Langroës
Plumergat
Isolated in the countryside of the hamlet of Langroës, this chapel owes its name to a fragment of the True Cross it is said once to have housed, making it one of the small places of devotion of the Auray area. Its architecture, typical of Breton Flamboyant Gothic, was refined in the 16th century: the north wall plate bears the date 1562, and the south doorway, with its ogee moulding and pinnacles, is adorned with a coat of arms held by two lions whose exact identification remains uncertain. Every year, around 15 September, the parish still celebrates a pardon here — that procession and solemn mass peculiar to Brittany, which perpetuate, no doubt for several centuries now, the memory of the founding relic. No source consulted allows the origin of the devotion to be dated precisely or the journey of the relic itself to be traced: only local oral tradition links the name of the place to this fragment of the Cross, information to be presented as such rather than as established fact. Restored in 1954, the chapel remains today a quiet destination for a walk for anyone exploring the hinterland of the Gulf of Morbihan, away from the great tourist sites of the coast.
