Funerary slabs of the 15th–17th centuries engraved with swords, crosses and tools

A charter of Duke Conan IV confirms as early as the 12th century the Templars' possessions at "Crihirac". On 22 May 1313, during the transfer of the Order's property after its dissolution, the Hospitaller brother Jean de Châlons took possession of the "domum et capellam de Creheac", sealing the passage of the commandery to the Hospitallers of Saint John. The chapel of Saint-Jean-Baptiste that survives today, much altered in the 17th and 20th centuries, retains a west portal with a moulded pointed arch and a bell-gable with crockets. The site has yielded funerary slabs of the 15th–17th centuries engraved with swords, crosses and tools, today remarkable witnesses to its past as a military-religious commandery. Registered as a monument historique in 1926.
