这座横跨杜罗河、连接波尔图与新盖亚城（Vila Nova de Gaia）的双层金属桥，由比利时工程师泰奥菲尔·塞里格（Théophile Seyrig）设计，他曾是古斯塔夫·埃菲尔的合作者——这一事实常被错误地简化为“埃菲尔建造的桥”。葡萄牙之路的朝圣者在穿越波尔图时，经由此桥往来两岸。该桥属于联合国教科文组织波尔图历史中心遗产的一部分。
