据传说，这座修道院是克洛维本人创建的；历史学家则更倾向认为是卡奥尔主教圣迪迪耶（Didier）在7世纪中叶的作品。1047年隶属克吕尼（Cluny），在11至12世纪迎来黄金时代，诞生了两件罗曼艺术杰作：一幅雕刻的山门楣饰，表现荣耀的基督，周围环绕着《启示录》中的二十四位长老，是欧洲最完整的罗曼式雕刻群之一；以及一座有76根柱头、各不相同的回廊，被视为西方现存最古老的叙事性回廊。作为孔波斯特拉之路的重要一站，因此被列入联合国教科文组织名录。
