Period
Medieval legend (15th century according to tradition), present building rebuilt 1927-1947
What stands there
Annual procession on Whit Sunday, kept up for several centuries

Tradition, long passed on by word of mouth, tells that a shepherd of Thorame received, in the Middle Ages (probably in the 15th century), an apparition of the Virgin asking him to build a chapel; a rose "picked in the garden of heaven" is said to have been left with him as a sign. The present building, at Thorame-Haute-Gare, was rebuilt between 1927 and 1947. The Whit Sunday procession has kept this devotion alive for several centuries, even though the details of the original story remain vague and poorly documented.
