What stands there
Marian pilgrimage attested since the 11th century, still celebrated every year

Tradition relates that a shepherd discovered, around the year 800, a statue of the Virgin and Child hidden in a flowering broom bush. Carried off by the priest to the village church, it is said to have vanished in the night despite the locked doors, reappearing on the very spot where it was found, a wonder attributed to the angels. This story, handed down by tradition rather than by sources contemporary with the events, gave Valfleury its name and founded a Marian pilgrimage attested since at least the 11th century.
