Chapelle Notre-Dame de Piétat
Pardies
In January 1661, a shepherd is said to have witnessed an apparition of the Virgin asking him to have a ruined chapel rebuilt; a hawthorn bush is then said to have flowered unexpectedly, a sign retained by tradition as confirmation of the wonder. The first Mass in the restored building was celebrated on 15 August 1661 by the bishop of the diocese — a documented fact, unlike the account of the apparition itself, which belongs to Béarnese popular tradition.
